Legal assistance for the diaspora
Lawyer for Romanians from the Diaspora
Legal representation in Romania without having to return
If you live outside Romania and have a legal problem in the country, a legacy, a property to sell, a court case, an authorization document, you are not obliged to return for every step of the procedure. Dîlv Alexandru Paul Law Office provides comprehensive representation in Romania for Romanian citizens residing abroad, with online consultations and communication in Romanian or in the international languages of circulation.
Common situations in which Romanians from the diaspora need a lawyer in Romania
Succession and Inheritance
One of the most common reasons Romanians in the diaspora contact a lawyer in Romania. If a parent or a relative has passed away and left assets in Romania, the succession procedure must be opened and finalized in Romania regardless of where you live. We provide full representation through a power of attorney, from the opening of the proceedings to the registration of the rights in the land registry.
Selling or managing a property in Romania
If you have property in Romania that you want to sell, rent out or manage, you do not need to be physically present at every transaction. Through an authentic power of attorney given at the consulate or notary in the country of residence, the office represents you fully in Romania.
Divorce with an international element
If you or your spouse reside outside Romania, divorce involves rules of private international law regarding the determination of the competent court, the applicable law, and the recognition of the judgment. We provide legal assistance for all these aspects.
Criminal records in Romania
If you are the subject of a criminal case in Romania as a suspect, defendant or victim, you can be represented by a lawyer without being physically present at the hearings, except in cases where presence is mandatory by law.
Recovery of rights or claims
Unpaid salaries from a former Romanian employer, compensation from an accident, the return of sums – all of these can be recovered through legal representation without physical presence.
Acts and prosecutors
If you need an authentic power of attorney to delegate someone in Romania, you can have it authenticated at the Romanian consulate in the country where you live. We redact the power of attorney in the correct legal form and coordinate the entire process.
Collaboration
How remote collaboration works
The initial consultation takes place online – via video or phone – in Romanian or English, depending on preference. After the consultation, we determine what documents are required, how they are submitted, and what next steps follow. Communication throughout the case is done through the means preferred by the client: email, WhatsApp, video call.
Physical presence in Romania is necessary only in exceptional cases, when the law requires personal presence. In other cases, the notarial power of attorney fully covers representation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I file a lawsuit without coming to Romania?
Yes. The procurer authenticates themselves at the Romanian consulate in their country of residence or at a local notary, followed by an apostille. The office drafts the text of the procuration in the correct legal form and coordinates with the client the entire process.
What happens to the inheritance if I don’t return to Romania?
If you do not open the succession proceedings, the assets remain in the state of indivisibility and cannot be alienated or distributed among the heirs. The succession proceedings can be completed in full through a power of attorney; physical presence is not required.
Are court decisions from Romania recognized in the country where I live?
It depends on the respective country and the type of decision. Within the European Union, civil and commercial decisions are automatically recognized under European regulations. We also provide legal assistance for the recognition procedure abroad.
Can I be prosecuted in Romania if I live in another country?
Yes. Residence outside the country does not stop a criminal case in Romania. The citation can be made through the consulate or through other means provided by international treaties. It is recommended to be represented by a lawyer in Romania regardless of where you are located.
